Everyone watch E.R.? Gray's Anatomy? Trauma Life in the E.R.? Read Wikipedia?
Good, then we are all doctors here and I am in need of some help.
We have a 28 year old, Female, who loves beer. (Me!) However, in the past few weeks I have noticed that when I wake up, after an evening of drinks, I have vertigo. Hard core.
Sure, you are saying, "Well, YEAH, you are hungover", but I challenge you, Doctor, and tell you that I AM NOT!
No headache, no dry mouth, no needs for a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit STAT!...just vertigo. It actually does not go away until about mid afternoon. I feel GREAT...except for the dizzies!
I have done everything I can think of. (except NOT drinking, of course)
I eat the night before. I get plenty of sleep. (In bed at 10:30pm)
I even drank less **GASP** and it didn't seem to make a difference.
So, last night, I had four beers before 8:00pm. I started around 5:30pm. I had four more beers by 12:30am. I admit, I didn't get to bed last night until 1:30am.
SO, I had eight beers...EIGHT...in an EIGHT HOUR TIME FRAME and still have the dizzies this morning. WHAT GIVES?! Just last month I could kill a 12 pack, be in bed by 11:00 and wake up the next day with not a symptom to show for it!
This is really ruining my happy drinking time, knowing that in the morning I am going to feel like I am on a merry-go-round for a majority of the day.
OH and another symptom is my vision. It takes me an incredibly long time to focus on whatever is in front of me.
Is my liver revolting on me already? I looked into what they call a "sluggish liver", however, the symptoms don't really cover me:
* high blood pressure
* abdominal bloating
* pot belly, weight gain, cellulite
* elevated cholesterol
* brownish spots on your skin
* acne, pimples, eczema
* hot flashes, irritability, depression
* chronic fatigue syndrome
FINE. I admit...pot belly does fit.
OK Doctors, go...cure me!

I had a friend, Pat, who could drink anyone under the table.. beer being her drink of choice.
Things like this started happening to her-- and she couldn't explain it. She finally found out that her body built up an allergy to something that was being used in beer production. She tried EVERYTHINg-- even organic beer... no go. She doesn't drink anymore.
CIW - well that sucks!! I wonder if that is the case? I will look into this allergy thing...
Could be an allergy, or it could be something way more serious. I would start with your eye doctor, if he's an ophthalmalogist. If you google dizziness and blurred vision together, you come up with benign intracranial hypertension. So says Dr. Google. Go to the doctor!
Dehydration can cause vertigo. Alcohol is a diuretic (makes you pee out alot) thus making you dehydrated.
Depending on how hydrated you started, sometimes it doesn't take much to get you there...
MAW - I do have an eye appointment set up, it has been six years since my last eye exam...however, it only happens after a night of drinking. Benign intracranial hypertension...LOL...OMG! I have BIH!
Squirty - I always drink a glass of water before I go to bed...and usually I can tell if I am dehydrated cause I wake up with cotton mouth...but this hasn't been the case lately. Maybe I am just no showing symptoms? I think maybe I should drink water with my beer and see if that does any good.
go to a doctor. clinic, shaman, something. seems odd. it is this acute.
Does this mean in all the pics you post of you out drinking with your buddies you'll be holding a Shasta??
OH MY GOD.. I have a sluggish liver!
Shane - shaman, LMAO! That might actually be better than some of the doctors we have around these parts! It is quite odd and I plan on seeing someone about it. I am pretty sure it is going to be that common joke: "Doc, it hurts when I do this" "Then don't do that anymore!"
Tina - Shasta? Is that some kind of yankee speak?!? I hope it means I will still be loving on my Miller, but maybe not!
Deb - LOL LOL LOL! I told you I am a DOCTOR!!!
My money is on an allergy! That totally sucks. Seriously, what would you do if you found out you were incurably allergic to beer??
CJ - I would put together a Walk-A-Thon...wait...NO! A Beer-A-Thon for the cure!!!
I have vertigo. True vertigo is caused when your eyes and ears are totally off balance. Your ears hear something which makes your eyes attempt to adjust or vice versa.
Your equilbrium is fucked girl; you honestly need to stop drinking for a week. I know, harsh, right?
Quick fix - Dramamine non drowsy (meclizine 50mg).
Feels totally off topic but check your cholesterol...Mine was so high it was fucking with me but when gotten back down I'm fine.
Switch to wine to test the allergy theory. ;)
Dawg - FOR A WEEK?!? Aren't we going a bit extreme here?!? LOL! Actually, that was the plan. I think that I will be drinking this weekend and then taking all next week off. Maybe a good detox will put things back right again. I equated the feeling to vertigo because it feels like my head is on a merry-go-round...it won't stop unless I am laying flat. It is a weird feeling, but not the kind of spinning head you get from drinking too much. It is very much like when you go on a roller coaster that didn't agree with you. So very strange.
might be the liver thing then...Just re-read your list. Get the cholesterol checked and go from there.
Lilli - damn girl! You are trying to fuck me up! WINE! Whew...lol...Bobz would be thrilled if I started drinking wine again. I suppose after next week of detox, I will try beer again and if that doesn't do it, then I will try wine.
I will get my cholesterol checked as soon as I get to a doctor.
Vertigo? Well my diagnostic would be either check your ear for an infection, it could be inner ear one so the ear doesn't hurt (although if it does go away by midday- dunno).
Besides the possible ear thing...
Have you had any blood work done lately? Cause I had a friend that had anemia and cause of that she was waking up with vertigo after hours of sleeping and not eating anything. Once you are up and going through the day, you eat and get better...
Maybe that is your case? I would start with that, getting your blood tested...
Or maybe you just need to quit drinking at all, NOT!!!!
LOL, have a great weekend!
Sunshine - I guess it is about time for a physical again. Not THAT physical, thankfully, that one is over for the year, but an actual one where they test all kinds of shit. I have had low iron before...whose to say that the red blood cells didn't decide to revolt?
I am afraid that they are just gonna be like...well, don't drink anymore! Which isn't cool...I am too young to have to stop NOW!
Lay off the beer. Try only shots tonight. See what happens and report back. My bill will arrive in the mail.
Sassy - oh goodness...no shots. No no. Bad shots.
Have you tried listening to U2's Vertigo album from start to finish? Just sayin.... might help.
Justin - you are a genius! Where have you been all my life?!
